Planning

The Nature Conservancy uses a systematic, science-based approach to identifying sites for protection called Conservation by Design, our framework for achieving mission success. This approach is organized by the world's ecoregions – large areas of land or water defined by their climate, geology and species—rather than by political boundaries. The Washington Program of The Nature Conservancy has recently completed a series of assessment for ecoregions intersecting the state, as well as a statewide freshwater assessment. Currently the Conservancy is also developing detailed Conservation Action Plans for a suite of high priority sites throughout Washington.
